A farmers market is a weekly (or bi-weekly, or monthly) market of local farm produce, small food businesses, and handicrafts. Each farmers market has its own personality; some draw many thousands of people each week, while others are much smaller. Some are able to recruit lots of farmers to truck in their fresh produce, while others rely on local artisans and cottage food businesses. But they’re all worth supporting—especially for the way they lend a sense of community to a neighborhood or small town.
The other markets we have listed are daily markets that carry local produce and food products, or they are on-farm stores. They generally have an online presence so you can check on their current hours of operation and what’s growing. If they have a Facebook page, that’s the best place to check. If the market is on the farm itself, the opening hours will change with the seasons.
